I am a sucker for Hades and Persephone retellings in basically any form. I also really loved the new take book one had with its enemies to lovers, boss, office romance tropes so I was really excited for book 2. I knew based on the ending in book 1 that this would venture much more into the “Fantasy / Paranormal” side of the story that I am typically used too when the storylines follow the usual God/Goddesses. I love Hades so much in this installment. I loved how “human” he felt with his hidden insecurities and vulnerabilities despite being one of the most powerful Gods and ruler of the Underworld. My heart broke for him when he was suffering and his main concern was still not putting that on Persephone’s shoulders. He is so fully committed her and I never doubted his love for her once. I have a love / dislike relationship with Persephone. I had to really try and give her the understand and benefit of doubt when it came to her actions and inability to move forward and resolve things. I won’t go into more detail as to not spoil things but I was like “FFS COME ON” many times. What I love about Persephone is her compassion and relationships she is starting to build with her subjects in the Underworld. I love her friendship with Mellie and how she immediately makes Cerberus her “baby”. She also becomes a total baddie as her strength, power, and overall bravery continues to come out the longer she is in the Underworld where she belongs.
Brief Summary of the Book
Queen of the Underworld was never a title Persephone Prosperina expected to hold. And yet, if the crown fits, right? Perspephone is plunged into her new role, feeling completely unsupported by the god that put her there. A god that is not expected in the Underworld for another month. But Persephone isn’t so sure that her fated mate is living it up in the mortal realm, but will anyone listen to her concerns and can she find him before time runs out?
