I love that with this author’s books that I have read thus far all include the audiobook with the ebook. It’s especially appreciated when a book is as intense and suspenseful as this one is…I didn’t have to stop reading when I had to hit the road! FBI agent Ave McLane and State Police Detective Mason Callahan are practically living together and happily coupled up. A new case for Mason ends up involving the FBI and they end up working together again. The case is suspenseful and the intermittent POV chapters from the killer make things interesting. The premise is intense and adds a more suspenseful and tense layer to the storytelling. I do have to say I’m already super sick of Ava’s twin Jayne. I want to empathize with Ava but I just can’t. It’s gotten too ridiculous. There is just no way I could continue to feel concern or responsibility for one of my siblings if they repeatedly did to me what Jayne has done to Ava and certainly the incident with Mason would be the straw the broke the camel’s back. Everything related to Jayne got really old and really annoying to the point I was hoping for a different outcome at one of the crisis points. Ava just becomes less believable a character to me at this point.
