This has all the action and adventure that you would expect from a pirate story plus romance. In this book of the Wiltshire Chronicles, Alana must leave her family and set sail for America until it is safe for her to return. When her ship is attacked by the notorious pirate Cedric Shaw, she disguises herself as a boy and is forced into servitude as his cabin boy. Alana survives the unthinkable but when Captain Shaw finds out her ruse, the adventure begins. This is a long book but every page is filled with action. I couldn’t put this down! The character of Captain Shaw was well put together and fleshed out. I really enjoyed reading his parts. The evil do-er is truly evil and the portrayal of the pirate crew and life on board the ship was exactly as I would have imagined them to be. The entire book is well written considering that it takes place on a ship, so the action and pace flows well.
Brief Summary of An Imperfect Scoundrel
Alana is persuaded by her brother to sail to America in order to avoid a crazed killer. The hope is that once he’s been caught, she can come home. However, her ship is attacked by pirates and she, dressed as a man, is pressed into service as the Captain’s manservant. Unbeknownst to her, Alana immediatley made a powerful enemy amongst the crew. Caught in a power play, she is accused, abused and imprisoned. How Alana’s body survived all that she endured is beyond me. Once the pirates arrive, this story is nonstop action. Secrets are revealed, mysteries are solved and a solution is found. This story kept me on the edge of my seat, and I could not put it down! Alana is a survivor, Mr. Hayward is a hero, and the Captain is sigh-worthy. Loved
