Brief Summary
Edi is in hospice dying of ovarian cancer. Ash has been her best friend since childhood and she has volunteered for the role of Edi’s primary caretaker. The hospice is in Massachusetts, close to where Ash lives. Edi’s husband and young son remain in New York City, acknowledging that Ash is the best person to see Edi though this journey. Ash is separated from her husband, Honey, who owns a medical marijuana business. It is never made really clear why they are separated but Ash is enjoying serial sex with lots of people. They include Edi’s brother Jonah, Edi’s doctor, and her daughter’s female fifth grade teacher. Honey is over at the house more than not. He brings food, fun and joy to Ash and their daughter Belle who is in high school and is queer. Their older daughter Jules is studying engineering at MIT.
