Dawson’s story wasn’t one I thought I needed when I read Come Back to Me, the first novel in the Waters of Time series. He didn’t exist in our world, yet, but I knew I needed to find out what happened to him after reading Stay With Me, the third book. I love that there was nothing predictable about this novel, even though it’s number four in the series, and I really wish the story had continued beyond where it ended. To watch Dawson come to terms with his disabilities, his anger, and his disappointment was beautiful. Because he finally learned to appreciate the trials God allowed to happen in his life, he opened his heart to love and forgiveness. Yes, the intrigue and danger helped propel the story along, but I found myself so totally vested in Dawson’s character, that I just wanted him to succeed, to find love and redemption, and to finally become the person he so desperately wanted to be. This is definitely a feel-good story where you will cheer and root for the damaged hero throughout the whole novel.
Brief Summary of the Book
Dawson Huxham received a devastating blow when his sister died. He thinks it’s his fault because he said hurting things to her the last time she tried to help him. Dawson has been almost completely blind since he was injured in the army, and has been depressed and bitter ever since. But his sister’s death brings him out of a stupor he knows he can no longer dwell in. One day, he unintentionally, but very briefly, crosses time to 1382 and sees his sister and his mother who had disappeared years ago, very alive and dressed like the era. He also sees a beautiful noblewoman and is intrigued about her. He desperately wants to cross time again to see them again and specially to get his mother’s help into how to capture a terrorist ring called Hamin that recently attacked him and seems to be after the holy water, and also might be the ones who have sent his mother back in time in the first place. When he finally gets ahold of the holy water and crosses time in a more permanent way, planning to be there for five days, he arrives in time to rescue Lady Phillipa Neville, the beautiful noblewoman he had previously seen, from the evil hands of her uncle who wants to marry her to the highest bidder.
