I enjoyed this story overall. This has been a sweet series about the Knott family, and I think it’s best enjoyed by reading the series in order. It’s fun to see the characters overlap and be so involved in each other’s lives. I liked the characters. I think Chase is actually my favourite of the brothers. I was happy to see the family relationships advance and certain ongoing issues be addressed. There are also some sweet romantic moments. And I loved everyone coming together as a big family in the face of a crisis. I was a little torn, however, because the justification for a fake relationship was pretty weak. It seemed kind of unnecessary, honestly. It felt like Chase and Lauryn should just have started dating naturally, or even spent time together as friends until it led to more. I liked the story, but don’t love a few of the plot devices. This is a clean and sweet book. If you’ve been read the series, you’ll definitely want to continue with this book.
Brief Summary of the Book
This is book 3 in the Cupid Ridge Cowboys Series and can be read as a standalone (though you can read The Sullen Cowboy, The Grumpy Cowboy, & The Cautious Cowboy if you want to read Everest, Mallorie, & Zoey’s stories). The book’s blurb gives you a good idea what to expect. It’s a great fake dating dual pov cowboy romance. All of her life Lauryn has been working at her family’s diner wanting her ideas to be appreciated & for her to be seen. Like Lauryn, Chase also has struggled with the feelings of not being seen as he grew up under his older brother’s shadow. They agree that fake dating will help them to get attention but didn’t realize how it would change them, aside from growing stronger feelings for each other. I enjoyed seeing both of them become more confident & outspoken of what they wanted in their respective lives. &, of course, I loved the way that they offered support to each other in their own ways. & although they are fake dating, it’s a subtle kind where they aren’t overly showing off (so don’t expect it to be like a usual fake dating story but I found that refreshing). Their romance is a clean slow burn because of how long it takes for them to admit their feelings to each other but you won’t mind the wait because they are sweet together. There isn’t much conflict, though there are tensions within family members but readers will be satisfied with the outcomes.
