The world building is really good and you’ll find yourself captivated by this extraordinary world full of drama, intrigue and twists and turns. I couldn’t put this down. Some scenes had my jaw dropping! The characters are complex and gritty and full of passion. I loved all their individual traits and how they complemented the group as a whole.
Brief Summary of the Book
Court of Nightmares is the first book in the Courts and Kings series. This is a series of stand alone novels. In Court of Nightmares vampyres are not made, they are born but do not get their fangs until they are 16 when they change into full vampyres. During the change they either survive or die. At 18, they go through a presentation ceremony, where they visit the other courts and have the potential to meet their fated mates. Althea meets her fated mate (Balthazar), who rejects her. Althea ends up at the Court of Nightmares, a place she believed was a myth and meets her 7 blood kings (yes you read that right, SEVEN), Azul, Conall, Lycus, Nathair, Osis Reve and Zale. They are vampyres who have been put on trial to be judged for crimes they have committed but are then chosen carefully by Gods to bring justice to vampyres who are tainted and being a threat to their race. Althea is given this same choice. She ends up dying (as prophesied by her mother, who was a seer) and is reborn as the blood queen. We get to learn about each of the Kings, their love, the bonds they have and their friendship with each other. We also get to see their relationship with Althea evolve and see how perfect they are as she fulfills each of their individual needs.
This is told from multiple POV’s and can be a bit confusing until you get to grips with who each character is. You may also like Pulling the Goalie by Lasairiona McMaster
