I gotta say I wasn’t sure I would love Andy as a hero. His past made him a bit jaded. HOWEVER, I’m firmly on Team Andy! This really was a beautiful story. Ivy was all you could ask for in the heroine. She was smart and strong but sweet. I am always fascinated by the details of Ms Jordan’s books. You feel like you’re right there, and I learn so much about the Eastern Shore. Andy and Ivy had to overcome the ridiculousness of how Andy treated her in HS, but he was so sweet and realized how he acted was appalling. I loved them together, and he was UNBELIEVABLY sexy. Baytown books are always a good read, and in her books, I find myself trying to figure out who did it. I love that I never want to put it down but also don’t want it to end! Enjoy!
Brief Summary of the Book
Needing a Hero is book #4 in the Baytown Heroes series. The book is in the enemies to lovers category. Ivy and Andy were definitely not friends in high school, more like Andy bullied Ivy. Times change and people grow up. Andy joined the Navy and worked on his strong feelings that center around his mom walking out on them. Ivy graduated as valedictorian and went to University away from the eastern shore to become an engineer. Ivy is on her way back to the eastern shore to start a new job, crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, when she encounters a situation. A man is standing by the edge of the bridge holding a baby and seems agitated. Ivy calls the situation into the authorities and goes to try to diffuse the situation. After ending up in the bay she is rescued by Andy and other members of the Virginia Marine Police. Neither of them recognize each other at the time. After finally recognizing Ivy, Andy is determined to apologize for his high school self. I love how the characters grow in their own lives as well as in their relationship. Andy has to come to grips with his mom leaving and Ivy has to deal with being bullied, being smart and being a woman in a traditionally male field. Loved the realization that “family wasn’t about who left. Family was about who stayed. Who didn’t mind getting their hands dirty when needed. Who didn’t mind the hard work it took to take care of each other. Who stepped up, stepped in, and stayed. Family was the heroes who earned their place at the table by being there when needed.” Loved this book and would highly recommend you give it a read.
