Our heroine is Lonnie, a servant of the Everlast royal family, and she’s about as anti-fae as a girl can get, especially after being raised by a mother who ingrained rules that all centered on not trusting anything if it involves the fae. There is absolutely more to her family’s background, and I hope we get more information about them. Lonnie is an easy character to root for because she’s the underdog. She’s stronger than anyone gives her credit for, which, when surrounded by the ruthless fae, it’s pretty easy to be seen as a lamb. Scion and Bael are interested in Lonnie for different reasons, and their interactions with her couldn’t be any more opposite. Scion is grumpy and brooding, while Bael is very outgoing; they have the same end goal but do not agree on how to achieve it best. We only get POVs from these two, but Gwydion will probably also end up being a love interest; he gives off the vibes of being the nicest of the three, but we don’t spend enough time with him for me to be sure of that judgment. Kate has made it clear that this will be a slow burn, and because the world is big, it will take time to get to the spice, so keep that in mind. There’s a little sprinkle of spice via Lonnie’s dreams, which I felt helped me track how she felt about the guys.
